Roman Living

Globally Minded

Studying abroad was one of the best experiences during my time at Loyola Chicago. Studying at John Felice Rome Center, I realized just how small our school is, let alone our individual selves, compared to the world. The endless amount of opportunities we have is truly amazing, and I learned as long as you work hard you can achieve your wildest dreams. During my time at the JFRC, I met one of the most amazing people in my life, Father Rudolf Kutchera. We had an on-site class for our Church in the world, where half of our weekly classes would take place at a church in the center of Rome. This man is a walking encyclopedia and knows so much about the churches and the history of Rome. During one of our classes at San Clemente, he told us the history of the church and told us that it was actually four churches built on top of each other, dating back to the BC years. Once we reached the bottom floor of the church, we had a reading from one of Paul's letters to the Apostles. After the reading, he told us we were sitting in the exact place where that letter was first written and read. This was the first class we had on-site and I knew from that day forth just how big the world actually is and how small we really are.
